What do i need to know about Level 1

Bring Your Own Kit (Encouraged): While we provide everything, apprentices are highly encouraged to build up their personal sewing kits (shears, pins, fabric markers) and bring them to class to foster independent practice habits at home.

Level 2: The Pattern Weaver Estimated Timeline: Variable (Typically 3–5 months depending on spatial reasoning and pattern reading comfort). Core Competencies & Tiny Details: Learning how to read, decode, and cut commercial or multi-size garment patterns. Understanding grainlines, bias, and directional fabric layout to prevent twisting garments. Advanced precision cutting techniques using fabric weights and specialized shears. Executing seam finishes, neat pressings, and structured seam allowances. Core Competencies & Tiny Details: Mastering complex garment fasteners: installing hidden/invisible zippers, buttonholes, and adjusting waistbands. Learning how to take precise body measurements and make minor pattern alterations for a perfect individual fit. Working with complex, delicate, or structured textiles (handling stretch, heavy canvas, or layered fabrics). Milestone Graduation Project: Designing and constructing a fully structured custom dress or a detailed button-up utility shirt. Can I work at my own pace, or are there set class schedules?

The Kallistyles Sewing Lab Apprenticeship Program is designed with flexibility in mind. We understand that every student learns differently and has unique scheduling needs. What materials and tools do I need to bring?

All essential sewing tools and materials are provided by the Kallistyles Sewing Lab. Students do not need to bring their own supplies for the apprenticeship program. However, we recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes and bringing a small notebook to track your progress and take notes during lessons.
